I've found my furever family!

Hi! My Name Is MJ

We're happy to tell you that MJ has a new furever home.
Please visit our Available Dogs Page to see the pups currently available.

Mary Jane (MJ) is a middle-aged gal who lived in a loving home for almost her whole life but found herself alone after her dad passed away and her mom succumbed to dementia.  The other dog she lived with got adopted and MJ was all alone in the shelter.  During her last months at home, her mom may have been over-feeding her or giving her human food causing her to gain a lot of weight.  Her healthy weight is likely 10-15 lbs less than she is currently.

MJ is a dog that could easily get overlooked.  She is 6-years old and obviously a mixed breed.  On paper, there is nothing special about this girl.  But wait until you meet her!  She is absolutely adorable!  She is so well-behaved and doesn't display any undesirable behaviors.  She is 100% housetrained, is AWESOME on the leash and in the car, doesn't jump on people, doesn't counter-surf, doesn't beg for food, and hasn't chewed on anything she isn't supposed to.  She responds very well to being gently corrected.  We are told she is good in the crate but we haven't felt the need to crate her because she is so good when left alone.  Hands down one of the best behaved foster dogs we have had.

MJ has the perfect energy level.  She is very chill, but loves to play with her toys and gets the zoomies every so often.  And watch her streak across the yard when she sees a squirrel!!  You would never know she was carrying so much extra weight!  She absolutely loves her walks, and she is SUCH a pleasure to take on walks.  She doesn't pull (unless she sees a squirrel apparently!) and doesn't react to dogs she sees on the street.  She loves to cuddle on the couch with her humans, and would love to share your bed if you let her.

Shelter staff told us that MJ can be slightly dog selective, since she would get stressed out by overly energetic dogs, or those that "got in her face" before she had a chance to get to know them.  The resident dogs are very calm and tend to give all our fosters plenty of space until they all get used to each other.  Nevertheless we were careful with introductions and it has gone very well!  The three of them act like they have been friends forever!

MJ would be a great fit with any family, but especially one that would help her continue on her path to a healthy weight (healthy weight food and lots of walks!).  Please fill out an application if you are interested in meeting this sweet girl!
