Wow, have you ever seen a more stunning dog?! With his good looks and gorgeous coat, Lew is ready for his red carpet debut at the Met Gala! Thankfully, his personality is as lovely as his looks. Lew is a 40lb, neutered male, blue merle Australian Shepherd. Lew is friendly with everyone he comes into contact with - men, women, kids, dogs. We are told he is scared of cats, but this hasn't been tested in his foster home. He does like to jump up on people for snuggles and kisses, so may be too much for very little kids who can more easily get knocked over.
Lew is a kisser, very affectionate, quiet, smart, thinks he's a lapdog, and is just overall very sweet, friendly and goofy. He is great on a leash, and enjoys long walks and quiet hikes on wooded trails. He would probably make a great running companion, not because he needs to expend energy, but because he walks in a straight line and doesn't get overly distracted by his environment. Lew doesn't know any obedience commands yet, so a basic training class would be helpful. He is playful with moderate energy, but can easily chill in the house when everyone else around him is just hanging out quietly as well.
Lew has a wonderful way of moderating his energy level to his environment. He is currently being fostered with a slower, older dog and he is very gentle and patient with her, giving her space and not being obnoxious. Then when he is with younger, more energetic dogs, he turns on the playfulness and bounds around with enthusiasm. But if he ever gets corrected by a dog for being too enthusiastic, he takes the correction with respect and grace and backs off. So he would likely do well in a home with any other kind of dog of any size or age, but would also be happy as an only dog.
Lew is currently being fostered in a condo and does just fine in an environment where he is taken for leashed walks a few times a day. If he does go to a home with a fenced-in yard, the fence will need to be higher than 5-feet tall as he can jump over 4-foot high gates. Lew rides well in the car, but will need to be seat-belted at all times unless you want a 40lb dog sitting in your lap while you're trying to drive.
Lew is a gem and would fit well into almost any household. Let's get Lew into his forever home for the holidays!
